Buehrle Continues Record Pace at Georgia Tech – University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Athletics – GoMocs.com

ATLANTA, Ga. — University of Tennessee at Chattanooga middle-distance runner Nicole Buehrle is making the most of her senior season as the graduate student beat out her previous top time in the 800 meter run Saturday at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta.

“Nicole raced her usual style and hung off the pace at the back of the pace,” head coach Andy Meyer said. “She made a great effort with 300 meters to go and came up just short, finishing second against a great field.”

Buehrle ran a personal best 2:11.68, shaving nearly two seconds off her PR she posted earlier this month at the UAB Spring Invite. Emmy Davis, in a different heat, also set a PR with a time of 2:17.47.

“Emmy executed the race plan to perfection and came from off the pace to finish a strong third in her heat,” Meyer said.

Katie Coker and Carley Burt got the meet started for Chattanooga in the 400 meter dash with both running strong races in almost perfect conditions. Both were just shy of their PRs with Coker finishing at 1:03.23 and Burt with a time of 1:06.41.

“The 200-meter finished into a slight headwind,” Meyer said of the shortest race of the day. “Both McKenzie [Williamson] and Imani [Bryant] competed hard in their respective heats and finished third and fourth. I was very proud of the effort they exerted to stay in the front of their races.”

Williamson ran a time of 25.93 and Bryant finished at 26.99.

“Overall this was a very good way to head into our conference meet,” Meyer said. “Coaches Ty Griffin and Michael Gadson had the ladies ready to race at their utmost limits.

“We have a couple of weeks now to get our final few hard workouts in and pull back a little to get everyone fully rested and fully prepared for conference.”

The Southern Conference Championships will run May 1-2 in Cullowhee, N.C.
