HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women’s soccer team wraps up their eight-game road trip this weekend when they take on Southland foe Nicholls Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. in Thibodaux, Louisiana and non-conference rival Louisiana Tech Sunday at 1 p.m. in Ruston, Louisiana.
The Lady Lions (3-5-1, 1-2-1 Southland) are coming off an undefeated weekend with last Friday’s tie at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and a 2-1 win Sunday at UIW. Senior Claire Huston led SLU to Sunday’s win as she scored her first career goal and assisted on Mia Milton’s game winner.
Sophomore Makenzie Maher leads the Lady Lions with four goals on the season entering the weekend. The Denham Springs, Louisiana native is also second on the team in shots (16) behind junior Mya Guillory with 18.
SLU will open the weekend Friday in Thibodaux when they take on the Colonels (0-9, 0-5 Southland). The Lady Lions have controlled the all-time series over Nicholls 27-1-1. The two teams met last year in Hammond with SLU defeating the Colonels, 4-0, on senior night.
Following Friday’s match, the Lady Lions will step out of conference play to take on Louisiana Tech (4-6-1, 0-3-0 Conference USA) Sunday afternoon. The two teams were originally scheduled to meet back on Sunday, Aug. 29 in Ruston but the match was postponed due to Hurricane Ida.
The Lady Techsters have won the last three matches against SLU up by one goal in 2011, 2012 and the 2019 season opener.
Louisiana Tech is led by Lauren Egbuloniu, Anna Loftus and Morgan Miller with three goals each. The trio pace a balanced Lady Techsters’ attack which has featured 14 different goal scorers this season.
Friday’s match at Nicholls will not be video streamed but live stats will be available. Sunday’s contest against Louisiana Tech will be streamed via Links to both matches will be available at the Southeastern soccer schedule page located at LionSports.Net.
