MATCH CENTRAL: at Tennessee Tech – University of Tennessee Athletics

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — No. 17 Tennessee will play its first road contest of the season on Thursday, traveling to Tennessee Tech for a 7 p.m. CT/8 p.m. ET matchup. The game will be available for streaming on ESPN+.

UT jumped into the United Soccer Coaches rankings in week one, landing at #17 after shutout wins over Florida Gulf Coast and Miami (Ohio). 

Tennessee enters the match at 2-0, while Tennessee Tech carries a record of 1-1, with its loss coming in overtime to Vanderbilt. In its most recent outing, Tech posted a 1-0 victory over Liberty on Sunday.  

Despite being close geographically, this will be the first matchup between the Volunteers and the Golden Eagles. Tennessee is 6-1-0 against Ohio Valley Conference opponents. The lone setback was a 1-0 loss to Southeast Missouri in 2016.

FUSCO FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK: Rookie midfielder Jordan Fusco earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors after scoring goals in back-to-back games to begin her collegiate career.FRESHMEN STARTING HOT: Midfielders and former Internationals SC teammates Jordan Fusco and Taylor Huff have been quick to contribute offensively, combining for four goals and an assist through two matches.

LOCKDOWN DEFENSE: The Vols’ back line has limited opposing teams to a combined 11 shots and one corner kick over the last two games.

DOUBLE-DIGIT SHUTOUTS: Junior Lindsey Romig recorded two saves against Miami (Ohio) to notch her second shutout of the 2021 season. She now has 10 solo shutouts in her career.

BIG TIME BENCH PLAY: Through two games, 12 Tennessee players have seen action off the bench, accounting for five of the team’s eight goals and four of seven assists. 

BROOKE IS BACK: Redshirt-junior Brooke Wilson, who transferred to Tennessee from Arizona last season but suffered a season-ending injury during the 2020 season opener at Alabama, scored her first goal as a Volunteer off a header at the 38-minute mark against Miami.
