Rysinski joins Dispatch as sports editor – The Commercial Dispatch

  • by

Tom Rysinski has joined The Dispatch as the new sports editor.

In his role, Rysinski will plan, edit and produce content for the daily sports section. His first day was Monday.

A North Brunswick, New Jersey, native, Rysinski comes to Columbus after working more than three years as sports editor for the biweekly Pahrump Valley Times and weekly Tonopah Times-Bonanza and Goldfield News, papers in rural Nye County, Nevada. He’s also worked stints at the Las Vegas Review-Journal and as scholastic sports editor for the Courier News in central New Jersey, where he led coverage of 35 high schools.

Rysinski is a graduate of Rutgers University.

“The Dispatch is laser-focused on expanding local sports coverage, which has been my priority in each sports job I’ve had,” he said. “I want every person involved in sports, from local rec leagues to the most powerful high school programs to Mississippi State University, to know we care deeply about their efforts. … Most of all, we simply want to recognize the achievements, great and small, of everyone from the freshman keeper on a small-school girls soccer team to the future NFL prospect playing defensive line for a powerhouse football team to the guy (or woman) who just bagged his or her biggest buck on a weekend hunting trip.”

Managing Editor Zack Plair said Rysinski’s experience and his passion for local coverage will greatly benefit Golden Triangle communities on the sports pages.

“This is a guy who understands and appreciates the broad spectrum of local sports this area has to offer, and he knows how to tell those stories,” Plair said. “We’re proud to have Tom on staff.”
