Section II spring sports postseason schedule set – The Daily Gazette

Niskayuna's Brock Behrman turns and fires on goal in front of Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake's Colden Swisher a June 1 boys' lacrosse game at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School.

Pairings, locations and dates for the Section II baseball, softball and boys’ lacrosse tournaments were released Sunday.

Section II hosted its last series of postseason tournaments in the winter of the 2019-20 school year. Issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of Section II tournament action in the spring of 2019-20, as well in the fall, winter and “Fall II” seasons this school year.

Tournament competition begins Monday and extends through Tuesday, June 15.

There will be no regional or state competitions in any springs sports.

BASEBALL

CBA (Class AA), South Glens Falls (Class A), Hudson (Class B), Fort Plain (Class C) and Germantown (Class D) received the top seeds for the Section II baseball tournament, which will start Monday with play-in games in Class B and Class C. Class C has the largest field with 22 teams.

The tournament schedule will have quarterfinals Tuesday, semifinals Saturday and championship games a week from Tuesday. All games will be played at the home site of the highest seed.

For Shenendehowa, Ballston Spa, Schuylerville and Whitehall, their tournament openers will mark their first postseason action since they played for state titles in 2019. Ballston Spa and Whitehall won New York titles that year.

SOFTBALL

Shenendehowa (Class AA), Averill Park (Class A), Ichabod Crane (Class B), Chatham (Class C) and Salem (Class D) earned the top seeds for the Section II softball tournament, which will have games in each class both Monday and Tuesday. The Class C bracket, with 22 teams entered, will be particularly busy Monday with six play-in games.

The tournament will continue Thursday, Saturday and a week from Tuesday. All games will be played at the home site of the highest seed.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

Unbeaten Niskayuna (Class A), Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake (Class B), South Glens Falls (Class C) and Johnstown (Class D) received the top seeds for the Section II boys’ lacrosse tournament which will conduct quarterfinals and semifinals Tuesday through Friday. The tournament championship games will be held at neutral sites Amsterdam and Schuylerville a week from Tuesday. Niskayuna has played in 17 consecutive title games at either the A or B level for one of the more impressive streaks in tournament annals.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Seeds for the Section II girls’ lacrosse tournament were released Saturday night and show Bethlehem (Class A), Queensbury (Class B), Averill Park (Class C) and Holy Names (Class D) as the top seeds in each bracket.

All of the top seeds received a quarterfinal bye, as well as a few others including Class B No. 2 Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, which went 11-0 in the Suburban Council (12-1 overall) but lost a key head-to-head non-league matchup with Foothills Council champ Queensbury last month
13-11. Queensbury also owns wins over the top three Class A-seeded teams.

Quarterfinals games are Monday and Tuesday. Semifinals are Thursday and Friday. Title games are next Monday and Tuesday. All games will be played at the highest remaining seeds.
